K&N in stock turtle shell
I did also. I wasn't looking for a performance increase though. I already had filter cleaner and oil, so I got a K&N filter. It should save you money in the long run, since K&N filters are supposed to last 100,000 miles.
i have a kn air filter in the stock box....but hopfully after paying off some bills with income...that will change...
I like K&N filters. I've put them on the last three cars I've owned.
It works pretty much the same.
Nothing you'll notice. Maybe like 1 or 2 hp max if that.
At first I seemed to be getting 1 or 2 MPG more. After driving with it for a while it seems like I'm getting 1 or 2 MPG less.
If you plan in keeping your HHR for a while and look at the cost of multiple disposable replacement filters versus a the initial cost of a K&N, the number of times you'll need to charge it, and the cost of recharge kits then yes.

You are supposed to recharge at 100K in normal daily street driving conditions. I only paid like $30 for the K&N replacement and it comes with its first oiling from the factory. My stock filter was dirty as hell by 30,000. That's about when I switched to a K&N. The way I look at it the K&N pays for itself within your first 100K or so.
