LE5 replacement for LE9

I got myself a 2009 HHR with a bad LE9. From what I could gather, the only differences between it and the LE5 are injectors and the ecm, and possibly the valve material. Is it possible then just to use the injectors/ecm on the bad motor and swap them over?

They will fit, the camshafts are different, so you might consider swapping those also.

Is the timing set different or is it just as a precaution?

A precaution, the timing sets are the same, for the LE5 or LE9 , the Cloyes 9-4201SA doesn’t include the VVT actuators, the 9-4202S kit has the complete balance shaft chain kit guides and tensioner.
I highly recommend an upper front guide replacement bolt from Melling or Dorman, both work great.

This is a great link to check out, and instructions to assemble the chains
