Lowering my HR
Lowering my HR
I am looking to lower my '06 2.4L HR and was wondering. I read through a lot of post I have to say, I love some of the work you guys have done. Your HR's look very nice. I am trying to compare Eibach to Gold Line. I will also being looking at some new wheels and tires and my concern is how much each spring system lowers the car. I see that Gold Line states they lower the car 1.75 in the front and 2.0 in rear, where Eibach is 1.0 and 1.6. If I go with around and 18x7.5 wheel, will have any problems with either lowering kit? Any other specific mod's I would need to do to handle either setup?? Are there any preferences between the two??
Thanks in advance to any responses.

If you're only going to 18s, I don't think either will be an issue. I went with the GLs for Dory, also an 06 model, but riding on factory 17s. As far as needing other mods to "handle" the drop......w/ the GLs, nothing else is needed (w/ the only exception being an alignment). But either a Progress Tech or TTR sway bar compliments the springs quite nicely!!
My springs were installed at a member's garage w/ rack during a "Mod Party".
They were installed Nov of 06. Not one problem, squeak, or rattle from them!
Most of the noise complaint w/ the GLs are from the rear only leveling springs.

I also installed the ttr sway bar and love the ride !! I would suggest both mods. I did the sway bar first but the lowering of the rear really made an added bonus to the handling and ride.
I've had no groans, moans, thunks or noise from my GLs. highly recommend

what does the sway bar do? i was told by a coupe of people to do it, but have no idea what it does. Also, how much does it cost to do?
I'm tempted to lower mine eventually, but the problem with that is if i go to see my family or my wife's family, they all live out in the country on dirt roads, and it helps to be higher up off the ground, even by a few inches. Plus with snow, didn't know how much lowering it would be a hinderance (and if i move back to michigan at sometime, the few feet of constant snow for 4 months can't help).

When i was looking to lower my HHR i noticed that the HHR and the cobalt SS used the same springs, they are interchangable. I looked on cobaltss.net and found a set of ss/sc stock springs for 70.00 shipped and installed them on my HHR. After comparing pics from other members who have installed the GL's with my HHR I have to say I don't see much of a difference between my ride height and those with the GL's. Right now there is a guy on the cobalt forum selling a set of ss/tc springs brand new with about 100 miles on the for 90.00, the ss/tc springs are designed a little different than the ss/sc springs and are supposedly a better performance spring. Just my thoughts, good luck with the project, very easy install with the right tools!

In regards to the lowering. A possible suggestion would be to just level the rear. This install takes about an hour and is literally 4 bolts and a jack and stands to do. This way, you can enjoy having the leveled look and easily switch back to the stock rear height when needed.
