You might want to take a look at the performance numbers from the SS, especially with the factory Stage I kit (with full factory warranty - no scattered parts included). I found it interesting that my HHR SS outperforms a 1970 SS 454 (LS5 auto) in 0-60, according to contemporary road tests of both. That's hot rod enough for me.

Engineering wise, there is NO SUCH THING as "ram air" on a street car folks!

My 1968 Chevelle SS did 13's in the Quarter mile and my 08 SS will beat my best time with my 68.

The old cars were quick but not always as quick as some like to remember them.

Note my Chevelle also had a cam and Tunnel Ram on it.
Stock it was a high 14 sec car.

The ram air deal is a dream. The best you can do is make the intake less restrictive to improve performance and then it is only how bad it is from the factory is to how much you gain. Anymore some factory set ups are not bad. THe SS is pretty good stock.

That would depend on how fast you drive on the street.

Like I SAID, if you want more air GET AN SS. If you REALLY WANT MORE AIR. put a supercharger on it.(and hire someone to follow you with a tow truck and a shovel). I KNOW the SS is fast, period. But the only way to get air "RAMMED" into an engine is either by a turbo or a supercharger (aka BLOWER)
A hood scoop won't do much other than provide an access to clean, cooler air.

for a little better flow add a K+N "stock" filter

And best of all never thrown a code with it...

Ram Air?

It's not exactly "ram air" or my original idea, but here's something that will make your hhr breathe a little better. thanks to the other people who made this modification to their stock airbox that gave me this idea!!

Basically all i did was cut a 3 inch hole in the opposite side of the air box from where the original intake was. i then purchased a 3" intake mount, and a 3" flexible air intake hose, bolted the intake mount onto the side of the air box, and tucked the hose between the radiator and the metal bar going across the top. throw in a few hose clamps and you've got yourself a second cold air intake supply!

I also plugged the hole in the air box where the intake pipe goes into the air box so as to block out any hot air coming into the engine.
