The computer came up with the P0300 code, which as I remember was for random misfire. Before that, the triangle traction control servicing light came on. I still feel as though we were robbed.

Not if you signed the work orders.

Hey, everyone has to do something stupid in their lifetime, at least once, or you aren't human.

WELL I'M BACK !!! Hi guys, took it to a mom and pop shop, but they didn't have the time to fix it. So I bought and replaced my ECM, and now I have a set of new problems. NOW the speedometer is absolutely dead, the fuel guage does a "dance", and it still runs like crap. I am seriously considering ditching this pile of crud. I have had enough.

Who programmed the ECM? You can't just plop a replacement in. And I bet you now have new codes in memory.

Did you inspect the pins on the ECM connectors? Sometimes they push out the back or get bent.

P0300 does not mean "random" misfire it means "unidentified" misfire. The way the computer senses misfires is really complicated.

If you could get the actual results of a compression and leakdown test, that would help.

The traction control light is caused by the engine code. The computer turns the TC off when there is a performance related problem.

OKAY EVERYONE.....THIS IS THE END OF THE PROBLEM !!! I tried yet another mom and pop shop, this one actually fixed the crazy problems. He told me that the replacement throttle assembly, I had ordered from partsgeek.com was a piece of crud. He got one local, and installed, then did the relearn with the computer. IT IS ALL GOOD NOW. I finally have control of the accelerator again. It did cost another $ 500.00. Merry Christmas, total spent around $1500.00 , still proves the "dealership" didn't know how to do anything right.

I’d contact a lawyer, then demand my money back from the dealership.

Well, it seems I spoke too soon. The new throttle assembly made the car run better, have control back. However, we are back to the original 0300 misfire code again. I am thinking the timing chain now. Should I replace the tensioner first? It is a 2.4 ecotec.

Pull the valve cover, look to see the front guide, it might be cracked or broken, that will ruin your day if it lets go!

I am taking your statements at face value: there are no strange noises, The ONLY indication is the check engine light. Or, are you saying NO check engine just a code when you plug a scanner in?

About the only other thing I can think of is the MAP (not MAF) sensor is not installed correctly; screw loose, O-ring bad etc.

I am still waiting for results from compression and leakdown! "they didn't seem to think anything was wrong" is not helpful.
