Unknown piece in glove compartment niche.

An unknown piece was found while replacing the cab filter. I thought about what I saw for a long time, but no sound thoughts appeared.
Here are the pictures.
What do you think? What is it?

It is supposed to keep the door from slamming. Neither of my HHRs had it, so I'm guessing it is something for the junk drawer.

It's sort of like the struts on the rear. Just smaller and looks kind of strange. 1st time I saw it I said the same thing. "What is that ? "

OU!
something like a closer on the front door in the office or in the house.
But it is disconnected from my glove compartment and does not work.
I need to take a closer look at it. Thank you, guys.

By the way, looking at my photos, I noticed that the metal under the dashboard is not painted and corrosion embryos are already attached there. I think I need to choose the time to remove the dashboard and paint the metal. I did not expect such a catch, but I will have to fix the problem.

Oh I thought it was part of a broken muffler bearing.
