Read again. The first thing I say is 'timing chain' and it was all done by a ASE certified mechanic. Total cost was $912.73

Yes, I re read the post, but what parts did he use?
Im sorry to report that some places use the $35.00 kits from flea bay and charge you a lot more!
those codes indicate the timing chain. Stretched and skipped a tooth.

I know you have 22K since the repair. If these codes lean to a chain problem I would have someone pull the valve cover and see if something isn't correct.
If curious ask the people what brand/company they used for the chain kit. Or if they did use a kit at all.

For my money this 9-4201SX is the kit for your 2.4 VVT Ecotec timing chain , no gears for the camshafts, because they are different
This is the balance shaft kit 9-4202s





this is the important piece, it replaces the weak little bolt under the plug in the head

preventing this

Short video for the P0016 and P0017
I also did some reading and those two codes show the sensors are working correctly. When the two sensors ( intake and exhaust cam positions) don't agree to what's going on the two codes are triggered.
