2 Tail Lights on Each Side?
 

I am setting up my HHR to tow behind my Motor Home... I have to wire the tail lights (Brake,turn signal.and running). I don't really want to use diodes or drill holes in the original tail light for separate bulbs......

What I am thinking is can I buy tail lights and replace the back up lights with original tail lights and use them for when I am towing? And then (if I need it) mount a single back up light just below the rear bumper....

That way I do not mess with any of the HHR wiring and I can keep the Motor Home lights completely seperate.....

i am pretty sure that the tail lights and the backup lights are slightly different sizes. I am not completely sure on this, but i believe that when i had them out to have them on the CADmachine, the fellow that was running the thing said they were differnt sizes.

Now that would be a bummer :(

They are different. Why not just use wire taps on the original brake wires (there is easy access through the rear cargo side panels), then run a "pigtail" trailer harness down below? You only have to do it once. Any motorhome shop should be able to do this if you can't.

You say run a "pigtail" down below? You may not understand what I am trying to do.... I want to have tail lights that light up when I apply the brakes, turn on the signals. etc. While I am towing my HHR WITH my Motor Home. I am not sure what a "pigtail" woud do.......:confused:

The pigtail would be run to the front of your car so it plugs in like a trailer.

Oh ok for some reason I thought he was talking aout a pigtail hanging out the back... I have the wires run already. I am just looking for a way to have tail lights that I don't have to use diodes and take a chance of back feeding the computer...

UHaul (i know for sure) and any RV store should have a 3 wire to 2 wire converter. If you have your Brake, Running, and Turn lights all separate and you are trying to convert that to a 2 wire system like the HHR where the Turn signal and Brake light are the same wire, this is the way to go. That way you don't need to drill for anymore lights. It is a simple splice-n-play. I used one on a 95 Honda prelude when I re-wired my taillights. Sounds like something that may help you.
