Best way to remove the gold bow tie on the center caps?
Ok did mine tonight.. Simple deal
I masked off around the wheel bow-ties (don't use any razor or sharp tool for cutting mask tape, too easy to cut into clear-coat).. I just cut the blue masking tape while on the roll to have straight ends, & pieced a nice protective area surrounding each bow-tie.
Then used a scotch-brite pad & just hand scuffed thru the clear-coat & then thru the gold..Leaving a nice 'brushed aluminum' looking bow-tie..
My scotch pad is not a new one, so it was less abrasive. But worked very well & more importantly, left no heavy scratches.
Then I removed the masking tape & put a dab of Micro-finish polish on a soft polish rag & just hand rubbed the area..(it will polish clear coats as well)....
I then finished with Mothers fine polish & swirl remover & wiped clean.. Looks like they came that way.. nice & shiny &.......... NO MORE GOLD.
I also did my steering wheel bow tie too..
Hey, I was on a roll.. LOL
Then added a good coat of wax over all the worked areas..
This was too easy to even drag out my buffer & just get a pad dirty..
On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being hardest, I would rate this a 2 1/2
Time-wise it took just under 2 hrs, but I was taking my time & was enjoying some music & bonding with my new ride....
Hope this .02 helps someone else out..
