Body color mirrors

When we bought Her Hot Rod we wanted the bright chrome but the car we got only had the satin chrome. I found a black chrome grill, door handles and hatch lifter on ebay, all new, for $200. That left what to do about the mirrors. I found a couple of bright chrome mirrors on ebay but when they came the bright chrome did not look good with the black chrome. So I got some body color paint from Chevy and took a good look at the mirrors. The chrome cover pops right off making painting easy. I wet sanded the satin covers with 800 grit and then wiped them down with Eastwood pre paint wipe, sprayed on 2 coats of adhesion promoter, 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. I think they look great!
I found out a couple of things while doing it. The satin chrome mirrors are real chrome-not paint. While I was wet sanding with the 800 grit the edges started to shine so I took a little rubbing compound and turned a small area from satin into shiny chrome. If you had satin and wanted chrome I am sure you could polish the whole mirror shiney. While I was at it I painted the chrome antenna bezel cover I got from Race and Street. While I was sanding it I found that it dulled the shine so it looked more like the satin. The mirror covers have a male-female lip around the mirror with 4 plastic clips that hold the cover to the body of the mirrpr securly but still pop of without damage I took them on and off several times and when I put them on for the last time you can"t tell they were ever off. Be careful there is a locating pin on the lower part of the mirror that if arn't careful to line it up they won't snap in but once I figured that out it was a snap. I was going to send some photos but I can't figure out how. Anybody help me on that?

That's good to know. I have the satin trim and wanted chrome. I clean it with never dull and it seems to be starting to get a bit shinier. I wonder what a mothers power ball would do to it?
