Not sure if anyone has had to replace a license plate lamp yet. Or the lens that covers it. I unfortunately have to replace one lens and it is proving to be rather difficult.

I have a 2006 HHR 2LT and here is the the lens that came with the car when it was manufactured.


And here is the part that is now shown in Chevy's inventory. It has a new part number (#16523228) that supercedes the part number for the original-to-the-car lens (starts with 120 or something like that).


GM can't get me the proper part. My local dealership found out where to send these images and we're waiting for a reply. Does anyone know on what model year GM changed the lens?

 

I have an 09 LS made in Nov of 08 and just put LEDs in the plate lights. My covers look just like your 06 with the angled screw holes.

 

The part number was changed from #10284226 back in 1997.The Chevy Venture uses the same part.

 

That's the same one mine has. I just put LEDs in there.

Wierd. So they must have changed the part in 2009 or put the wrong part in the package? Maybe both? I'm not liking post bankruptcy GM/Chevrolet at all.

solman98, I lost one. I was doing a lot of "little touches" maintenance while installing my IPCW LED tail lights (swapping out the old bulbs for new LED license plate bulbs, cleaning the radiator grill, wiping down the engine). I had left the lenses, screws, a screw drive and tube of anti-seize on the rear bumper. The girlfriend came out in a rush realizing she was about to miss an appointment so I tried to quickly clean up but didn't grab everything off of the rear bumper.

I picked up a pair of single LED, hyperwhites on EBay, 99 cents, shipped..... Search for 194 LED's and you will get lots of choices.

 

Just received a call from my Chevy dealership. It seems that GM has the wrong part number in their system. The system stated that the lens I have is for all 2008 - 2010 HHRs however, it is also the same for 2007 and 2006 model years. They're updating their system and getting me the correct part.

Now the bad news. The correct part costs US $30 for one lens while the incorrect part costs about US $15.
