I called around for the 'GM' part number locally and was told it could not be found in the computer system??
But I did find a "STANT" (only one in stock) at PepBoy's that was listed per their computers at to fit the '06 HHR.
the 'Stant' part # was 11511 / UPC:033342043220
$14.95 <less than the gas that I loss>

While I have yet to try it 'on' I thought that I would post the above info.
It was TOo. HOo.t [108' at 6:30pm] when I got home with the part to 'play', and wanted the car to have a chance to cool down before taking off the current gas cap.

I bought the Stant one and while it does fit the filler tube you have to bend the tab on the door to get it to close. The door doesn't work right with it on BUT for now it looks ok and keeps my gas in the tank until I use it and after having it siphoned I'll settle for that for the time being.

Stant 11511 is the same (packaged differently) as the 10511 which I had and would not allow the door to clos correctly. But try it if you like. Maybe it will work for you.

My chevy dealer ordered the GM one for me. I had already tried the Stant and Gates fuel door would not shut as I posted earlier.

I do not suggest it. We had one on our chevy malibu and there was a emmissions issue with the car and they said that we could not use it. I forget the same BS reason he gave us.

The "STANT" does not fit :(

Could not close the fuel access door!

Does anybody have a US GMC part number for the locking gas cap?
