In thinking about all of the cold-air-intake-filter threads, and how it is too hot under the hood, why hasn't someone done louvers down the hood? You know, two rows of louvers like on a rod or a classic '30's car. It would look great and reduce the engine compartment temp. Alternately, there are some molded factory louvers that could be adapted and painted and set into an HHR hood. Just a thought. God Bless, Marc

I agree! I was playing around with fonts for the first time and it went wild on me. It's for aging eyes....that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Heh, heh.

Those louvers look great. I'd think they work swell to reduce temps underhood. Do you have a cold air box under there?

THey look cool but I would not recomend them for a daily driver unless you live in the desert.

Water on the engine is not a recomended thing.

 

maybe they would work on the sides of the hood....like the old buick type vents that many people are sticking on the sides , but make them fuctional.

 

great look but it comes at a price...my former choptop slammer s15 had the same hood...lots of thumbs up but oh yea...UNLESS U LIVE IN VAGUS wich I dont(cunuck).or sumwhere where rain is limited..all my chrome needed CONSTANT POLISHING NOT TO MENTION THE CORROSION ON BATTERY AND STARTER TERMINALS AND EVERYWHERE ELSE..UNLESS ITS 304 STAINLESS OR BETTER ITS GUNNA RUST...your choice..underhood temps should not be an issue if u have things set up correctly..airflow is huge as it is..

 

Wouldn't the removal of the underhood sound proofing affect noise and hood vibration (negatively)?

I had heard of a good tip for keeping your engine dry with a louvered hood. Its posted somewhere here on another louver thread. Basically you get some of the magnetic material they use for those tacky car door signs and stick them to the bottom of the hood under the louvers keeping the rain off of your engine.
