Mag Chloride Destroyed my mirrors, door handles & Rear liftgate bar
 

HELP!!! I just washed my car after our last snow and I noticed that I have these "rust" looking marks all over my chrome pieces, I think it is the mag chloride they use on the roads here. It has damaged the following pieces: The stock grill (I have replaced already, with an aftermarket one) the chrome skullcaps on both mirrors, door handles and the rear liftgate beauty bar. I am very religous about washing my car. I have washed in temps as low as 22 degrees just to make sure things like this didn't happen. I will take some pictures this weekend to show you guys.

Is there a way to fix this? I have scrubbed the hell out of them and nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Try a clay bar. You can get a product named Clay Magic at Autozone for like $11 and it comes with the clay bar and spray lubricate.:thumb:

I use polishing compound on chrome that is stained or lightly rusted. Should easily remove the winter gunk chemical residue you have. Be careful though, light pressure, not in one spot to long. Remember, this is plated plastic, you can go through if not careful! Make sure you DO NOT USE RUBBING COMPOUND, too aggressive. Polishing compound only! :thumb:

Weird. I thought the benefit to living in CO was that they used ice melt that wasn't corrosive to your car.

Up here, they use plain old rock salt. Works faster, at lower temps, and completes the rusting of your vehicle in half the time of other deicing chemicals.
