That's different, I like the look. Is that going to compromise the cooling? Or the collision absorbing factor for the bumper?

patmaher 12-25-2017 04:22 PM

Thanks. No not at all.

There was this concept, kit available back in the day, was this your inspiration?

I THINK by design the HHR is a bottom breather anyway, so cooling shouldn't be compromised. Didn't you modify the actual bumper in previous pictures (I am referring to the metal bumper not the plastic bumper cover)? That would definitely compromise safety.

why do you think that? Radiator sits right behind hood grille. I am not an expert, but how is a radiator getting air in this case?

SuKi 12-29-2017 12:27 AM

Pat, I'm diggin the go for it attitude you have. I wouldn't do that style for Big Red, but you definitely have a one of a kind HHR. I do like the look of your headlights a lot more now that the hood and grille have been changed.

How are the lights holding up? No cracks or splits in the body work?

Because I believe it was designed to take in the majority of air flow from that bottom opening, based on the design of the car. :bow:OH HHR GURUS PLEASE HELP ME:bow:

No cracks since may . This is my daily driver and i'm on the road all day. The radiator starts at the middle of the hood and lots of air goes in since my metal bumper has been openned up . The bumper is still there and strong , we just cut large holes in it .

I'm trying to see how it's different from what you did last year, it must be very subtle.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Doesn't look like the collision system is retained, though..

How did you 'shave' the bumper to get rid of the square "bumperettes"? I thought flex bumpers couldn't be modified (i.e. patched)?

There are flexible repair products that can be used like "bondo"... You would need patch pieces to fill the holes though. A couple of guys have done it around here.

letterman7 10-17-2018 12:42 PM

I'll have to practice on a spare bumper :-) I like the look. Wish that kit that OldBlue had posted was available somewhere...

Awesome job

Kimh21775 06-29-2022 10:28 AM

Does anyone know if these hoods are available anywhere? Would like to get my hands on one.

No. Make your own like the OP did and fill the grille opening.

Oldblue 06-29-2022 11:40 AM

The white car was a home made deal, the 2 tone car, was from a company that’s no longer in business, perhaps a search of the interwebs will score you the kit!

donbrew 06-29-2022 05:19 PM

The 2-tone one might be a modified SSR hood.

Oldblue 06-29-2022 06:54 PM

It was a kit from PTeasers

They had a kit back in the day!
