Removing 3M tape and badges
 

I want to remove the HHR and LT badges on my chevy as well as two badges I added later with some 3M tape. Anybody have any sure fire ways to remove these things without damaging my paint job? I googled it already and heard about the 3m stuff as well as wd40, but I rather ask some folks that may have done it on OUR CARS. Thanks-

Goo Gone works great for taking off the last of the adhesive!!

I'd take a hair dryer out to heat up the emblems and then something rubber/soft plastic to wedge under the emblem. One thing I found out the hard way is the have something under the opposite edge to keep it from digging in as the other side lifts up.

I'm sure others have ways that worked for them, this is what worked for me.

Theres 3M adhesive/wax remover, spray. Works good and won`t damage paint.

Take some fishing line and use it to "saw" through the tape and remove the badge, then use goo gone.

so goo gone works with the badge adhesive and 3M? What about the tiny GM badge? Thanks for chiming in guys-

Goo Gone works wonders especially removing those annoying dealer decals. Theres a new gel type spray thats thick and it says its safe on clear coats.

and the "ultimate" adhesive remover is...

lighter fluid

much cheaper than most others, and have had no problems in using it on plastic, metal, painted surfaces (been using it for 40+ years). Only painted surface you might not want to use it on is one painted with spray or brush on enamel that has been painted within the last month or so. Well cured enamel should be OK.

It's especially useful for removing decals/stickers that are being a PITA. If you can get one edge of the sticker/decal lifted, add a little lighter fluid to where the sticker/decal is coming up. The adhesive will dissolve/loosen and peeling it will be much easier. Repeat as needed while peeling until the sticker/decal comes off, a little lighter fluid on a soft cloth to wipe off the residue and you're done.:thumb:

I prefer the 3M adhesive remover, I figure what company knows better how too remove 3M tape but 3M themselves. Just remember to wash then wax the new area after your thru.

used fish wire and the adhesive actually just peeled off. it was a breeze. THe 3M adhesive remover worked well with the badges I added. I'm loving the cleanness of the look. can't wait to lower it. Anybody got a deal on some springs?
