repurposing the HHR

Has anyone besides myself had the notion of recycling a dead HHR into a pull-behind camper (think teardrop style)?

Nope, still driving the wheels off it!

bowtieboy68 06-26-2017 10:35 AM

and what about when the wheels fall off then?

Wouldn't be much good as a trailer without wheels... :gnonespet:

It could be a nice little trailer, good sleeping room... There was even a custom fit tent available at some point, Don't remember who was making those. It could get quite heavy when loaded to tow behind an HHR, depending on how you outfitted it. But that would be a cool setup.

Now... If it was a V8, RWD HHR towing it, weight would not be an issue. Black with flames... Matching trailer, Now that would be a cool setup!

I just enjoy my HHR so much ! I've never thought of converting it to a trailer!
Or repurposing a dead one.

Would you go two wheels, or four? Close in the engine bay for trunk storage. I think the idea is novel, but sooooooooo much work and a very limited trailer makes for a better idea than a project. I would love to see you or somebody else do it. But only if you pull it with an HHR.

Someone in PT land has gone and done it!

Seems a little small not worth the expense or effort.
A bit cheesy

Was that tent setup like this?

Rear axle is already pretty much along for the ride anyway... and has brakes. If you have one that isn't worth driving anymore, I can see pulling the nose off, slicking up the firewall area... might take a little engineering to get the tow gear on solid, but shouldn't be too bad.
Probably too heavy to pull with another HHR, unless you cut it shorter like the above PT Cruiser driver.
