Ok, the service manual says they are glued on..... to remove them use heat to soften the glue (most likely double stick tape since they actually sit just off the door surface).

the clear is called clear paint shield, they are pre-cut panels for each vehicle, work very well but are pricey for a larger kit(ft bumper, hood, fenders, etc) and not for a novice to install...Rob

Tape them off and paint them with two good coats of spray on bed liner......Have stayed nice looking ever since......
Those black finish-protectors in your photo are exactly what I'm looking for. May I ask, please, who I might be able to contact to purchase a set? Thank you very much. Take care. Will

Welcome to the site, those stone guards in the back doors are no discontinued, you might find them in a pats yard, you will need to remove them and possibly paint them, they adhere with double sided tape.

The hard plastic protectors came on late 2006-2007 LS/LT without running boards. The flexible film type came on 2008-2011 models without running boards.

Google "Parts Panda" and you will find a Facebook page for my friend Alfred Yee.
He specializes in used parts for HHRs and he pretty much always has those guards in various colors.

I have bought a couple of sets. Here is one.

The guards were originally silver, I made them black.
