what is the glovebox on the dash called?? and do the 2 screws in the front let you remove the whole box or is there some other parts to loosen

Oldblue 08-02-2018 03:26 PM

Dash cubby, collect all, upper bin, junk box.
Those two screws will allow you to remove it.

thanks buddy, seems like a spring has sprung on one of the back hinges, maybe a trip to a u-pull-it place for a new used one

papa_jo 08-02-2018 03:44 PM

just did a quick e-bay, found 'em

donbrew 08-02-2018 06:16 PM

It's the rubber bumpers that do the springing.

GM calls it COMPARTMENT. Instrument Panel It is a unit, the whole thingamajig. Follow the link, there seem to be 3 part numbers, 3 colors.

However, as I pointed out: it is the rubber bumpers that provide the "spring". Mine always tried to wander off of the spot they are glued to. I just moved them back periodically.

donbrew 08-03-2018 12:49 PM

I bet there is GM dealership in Canada, somewhere.

Oldblue 08-03-2018 05:19 PM

If it's the rubber bits sticking to the lid use this stuff...

Best rubber treatment anywhere... kind of pricey and wouldn't be worth buying for this one thing. But a bottle goes a long way so treat all the rubber on the car and forget about dry rot and hardening. This stuff works!

Not this. If the door won't open when he pushes the button, or rather, won't stay open, Papa_Jo's issue is with the mechanism in the hinge. I can't see that the rubber bumpers are providing any assistance with opening the compartment.

Oldblue 08-03-2018 06:04 PM

Pop you rubber bumpers out and you’ll see what we mean.

OK, I see now that they do assist with unlatching :wow:

But there is a spring mechanism in the hinge area that actually opens it and holds it open, and that's what he said was his issue. But if his issue is actually that it wont open, then yes, it could be bumpers.

papa_jo 08-05-2018 05:34 AM

BUT the right hinge was<is> broke in two<to>. super glue for now !! Thanks guys for all the replies. is this a great site or what !!!!
