2006 HHR no power to radio

There is no power to my radio in the HHR. I checked all the fuses in both the inside and under hood fuse box. I ordered the same radio unit on ebay, replaced the radio and still no power to the unit. Is there a short somewhere? What could be the issue? I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to have a lower ball joint replaced, will they be able to provide any insight or am I just wasting my time and money?
thanks!

Welcome to the site, if the guy has a tech 2 scanner he might be able to match it to your vin number.

match the new radio? the new one doesn't power when I connect it either. Can you explain how the scanner would help this issue?

Which radio? With amp or without amp. Stock or after market? Did it ever have power? What happened just before it failed? Has anyone been messing with wires anywhere in the car?
You did waste money on a new radio. A new radio needs to be programmed to the car unless has never been installed or the security chip has been replaced.
Fuse #23 inside is the one to look at it should be hot at all times.

It was a used version of the same radio and I planned on getting it programmed but it didn't get power either. The radio didn't work when I purchased the car so I thought it was a dead unit or fuse. The power mirrors also don't work. None of the fuses are blown but I haven't checked if fuse #23 is actually hot yet. Could it be a fault in the fuse box itself or the wiring?

Why did you replace the radio if there was no power to the original one ?

Because I thought, all the fuses were good and the radio was just a dead unit and if I replaced it that would have solved the problem. I am just learning how to work on things. Made sense to me at the time.
