2008 HHR SS Radio jumps to auxiliary input
 

My 2008 HHR SS w/6 CD changer radio often while it's on will flip to Auxilliary Input then back to either radio or CD, whichever I'm using at the time. Once it starts it typically stays on the Auxiliary Input screen more often than not. Any ideas about what's going on?

Seems the circuit board may have deteriorated and is malfunctioning, there was a radio shop in Florida that repaired these radios.

Dirt on the contacts. The faceplate comes off and you can access the touchpads for cleaning. OR, something is stuck in the aux jack.

Mine does the same thing. Seems it will do it pretty frequently, then the issue will disappear for many months.( not doing it for several months now ) And my radio still has the little factory rubber cover plug in the port. When it jumps to Aux. Input I can rap my knuckle on the little cover and get it to return to the radio. Sometimes I have to do the "Fonzie" knuckle rap a couple of times.
And my radio was replaced under warranty back in 2013. The original had a bad LCD screen. Seems these weren't the most reliable radios for the long term.

Mine just recently started to do this also. I noticed it jumps between Aux Input and radio when I hit bumps and usually goes back to the radio. But even the smallest shakes or bumps can do this and as a result on some roads its occurring every few seconds. I think its related to the USB port which stopped working after only about 3 or 4 years of use. I noticed if I jam a USB into the port several times, it corrects the problem for a day or two.

Is there a way to disable the USB port? Maybe cut the wires. If its the USB port, do you think this would correct the issue.

And I agree these stock HHR SS radio seem to be junk even though I have the Pioneer sub-woofer upgrade and all.

The SS head unit was the same as the LS/LT head units, you could spray contact cleaner into or replace the USB port if your soldering skills are up to it.

I don't know if you can get to the USB, if you can yes cutting/de-soldering the wires will disable it. More likely there is something in the USB port that is shorting some of the contacts, there are no moving parts in a USB port, just 4 contact pads.
