aftermarket cd player???

hey family, so i bought a JVC cd player nothing fancy, well i bought the dash kit, wire harness, and antenna adapter everything went as normal with the installation, but the cd player will come on then just die, i played around with the wiring now i have it to where the cd plaer stays on all the time it will not turn off lol once i turn the key off the radio and my parking lights remain on, the only way to turn it off is to pull the fuse comming off the battery + terminal. the wiring kit came with an independant red wire i have no clue what this is for im sure it is the answer to my problem so can anyone help me as to where this wire needs to be installed??? and any suggestions on fitting the deck, it is very tight and the cd player is sticking out about 1/8th it just looks like crap thanks alot guys

what wiring harness are you using. they usually come with a diagram that says what wires go where.

I put in a Sony CDX-GT630UI a couple weeks ago and didn't have any problems but I ordered it from Crutchfield and it came with everything I needed for the install. You may want to call them and ask just a couple questions to get you on the right track. My install looks perfect and is seated very nicely with no gaps and this was my first ever car stereo install so maybe you simply overlooked something, here are the parts I used in case it helps.

I used the following parts for the install on a 2008 HHR LS:

Sony CDX-GT630UI http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT63...T630UI&tp=5684

GMOS-LAN-03 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120OSLA...h=gmos&tp=3486

In-Dash Kit http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142GM15...M1598B&tp=3121

Antenna Adapter http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12040CR...40CR10&tp=2569

Most car audio systems have standard color coding.

Red is typically 12V switched (accessory) hot. The source that you derive the 12V for this lead would normally go dead when the ignition is shut all the way off. This will shut down the main operation of the unit.

Yellow is typically 12V constant (battery) hot. The source that you derive the 12V for this lead would always be live, regardless of the position of the ignition switch. This will maintain the system's memory (clock, presets, etc.)

Blue is typically a switched output for an accessory such as an electric antenna. Tape this one off if using it for an HHR.

Black is ground, "the world around". If you don't know what this is, consult a professional :-)
