Aftermarket Radio/Head Unit

Anyone have any good recommendations for upgrading the stock (non-Pioneer) radio to something more modern and fuctional?

Seems we're limited to 7" display. Wondering if there are any ootions to have a separate monitor from the head unit?

The only one I've seen is the Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX.

Hefty price tag though.

Exactly where I would shopping, they have a wide assortment of HU. The ones you’re looking at are spendy!!

Unfortunately, the one I mentioned was the only one with a larger screen that would work in the HHR because of the option to separate the screen away from the head unit.

I'm not sure what you mean by separate from headunit, or why that's important. This is what I just got.

I miss being able to quickly reduce the volume with the knob. But the adapter they used retains the mute function of the "call" steering wheel button, so I'm pretty happy about that.

OP is talking about units with “floating” displays, to overcome the limit imposed by the size of a double DIN.

Crutchfield has several by Boss. Here’s the cheapest one I found. This one is over 10”, has a removable display, and volume knob. Have seen them up to 14”. Backup cam optional.

Watch the first vid at the link.

Thanks for the reply and Pic. Since this will also be a navigation system I would like to have the screen more eye level. I like the idea of the Pioneer system I posted above with the separate display. With this you can have the head unit in a standard spot and then relocate the screen higher up or any spot you wish. Of course the Pioneer unit is really pricey at $1200.

Yeah unfortunately that Boss unit's display has to be attached to the main unit and cannot be relocated. You may be better off going with a seperate gps unit that you can mount up higher on the dash.It would be ALOT cheaper .You could still swap your head unit for a better one and save money.

Yes, but looks to me that the display height may be adjustable, but even if not, the pic I posted shows that will be quite a bit higher than the stock unit. Down side, looks like it will block the vents at lease a little. Dunno. Need dimensions.

Avoid boss or dual. They are junk.

The O.P. wants it at eye level.
