base unit upgrade to Panasonic 1333?

I have a 1Lt with the base audio unit. I’ve been reading in the audio/video section for a while and have decided that I don’t want to attempt to put in my own stuff.

That being said I went to a local shop that has been around for 30+ years and has a good reputation. I don’t know him personally but the owner there suggested that I start with a new hu and see where I stand, then add new speakers. (If I do add a sub, it will have to fit in the space allowed, I have a feeling I will be adding one.)

I want to have a line in for an ipod. He suggested a Panasonic 1333 for $250 installed. Then add the speakers after I see how much diff the new hu makes.

He priced the speakers at $150 a pair, installed. I didn’t get any info/specs on the speakers yet.

My question is, does anyone think that particular unit seems like a good/bad choice to start with?

150 for install sounds high the head unit sales for about 100 dollars on the net, that description doesnt say anything about rca outputs which means you wont have control for amps for your sub

Thanks for the info and link crowbar.

There's another place in town I think I'll go there and get an estimate too. I wouldn't have known about needing the rca's for the amp for the sub. When I brought the sub up, he said something like that's a whole 'nother story and i didn't push it. I'll go back and let him know I want a sub for sure and see what he suggests then. Plus when I go to the other shop I'll know to let them know for sure I want a sub.

id make sure it had atleast 2 set of rca outs incase you want to power your highs too, alot of times running a sub will drown out a pair of door speakers that just run off the deck

on a side note it really isnt hard to do it yourself (install headunit)if your not color blind just a matter of looking at what color wire the red one goes to save that cash for a higher end hu
