car audio problems 2010 HHR

I have been reading a lot of threads concerning stereos but decided just to post. The Stereo itself needs replaced because the digital part is messed up but it WAS working well. So, now I seem to have only my left tweeter working and it sounds like I am back to my childhood with a transistor radio. All of the speakers except this tweeter quit working at the same time. My stereo is just stock, not the pioneer version.
I am not savvy on stereo or speaker replacement in this car at all, bought my car new. I am going to have everything installed by my son who is pretty adapt at doing pretty much anything. But I need to buy all the components first. I don't need anything crazy, not into the booming subs or anything like that, just music, cd's. I do not have stereo functions on my steering wheel, nor do I have onstar either. I have read Crutchfield to get all the parts which I have looked into but am concerned about the programming that may need done, an adapter which I read I will need maybe? And there is an amp too needing replaced? I may have to replace everything, I do not know but not being with any music is not acceptable for me. What has worked for other HHR owners on here? Thanks so much for your input :)

Crutchfield has instruction as well as all of the parts you may need. The module you need is the "chime" one, I think that would be all.

Get the part names/numbers from Crutchfield then save some money by going to eBay.

You don't have an amplifier to replace.

What do you mean "the digital part is messed up"?

Sound to me like your speakers all failed at the same time, not that unusual.

Welcome to the site, sounds like your speakers are toast, 6 3/4 inch 4 ohm speakers from whoever you choose , Crutchfield has a great line up, some don’t like their prices, and go to EBAY be careful of the claims of what fits where.

The digital part was not working or the lights were having their own hallucinations or something. Had my stereo replaced at best buy as they had a special for free install. Yes all 4 of my speakers also are fried so my son will replace them. What a hoot everything going out at once. Oh well, things happen and my HHR is getting back to being able to dance down the road again. :)

Look through the Crank It forum for some great tunes!

out of curiousity, what extra parts will I need to get the door speakers installed? I want to make sure I have everything ready for when the speakers are delivered. I don't know about speaker wires or what that would entail either. Is it ok to use the stock wires?

There are adapter plates and wire connections, if you don’t plan in installing a set of OEM speakers then cut the harness at each speaker

You can either buy mounting adapters or cut the old cones out and use the old or fabricate your own. wire taps.
