I'm assuming that the trani has to be in nuetral in order for the remote start to work, right? I ask because most remote starts only come for automatics for obvious safety reasons.

Sure;

1) Turn off the radio button.

2) open/shut the driver door quickly; the radio shuts off as soon as the driver's door opens.

Hope it helps,

Oh......and Nick!

I didn't think you could have a remote starter on amanual transmission.

Sure, they do it all te time now using a neutral safety lockout.
The HHR must be left in neutral (hopefully on level ground!), with the parking brake on.
If the vehicle is left in gear, the engine won't start.

yes you have to leave the car in neturel and follow a saftey procedure... Works great on the manual, i knew the compustar would work don't know if there is any other ones out there that will allow for a remote starter. Anyways i'll try the open and close door quickly right now i need to tuen the radio off.

Not always true. I had a remote start on my Geo Metro. There were 4 of us in town that had it on manuals, 2 hondas, a Isuzu pup and my Metro. All of them would start in gear. We had warning signs printed that went on our dashes to say warning car must be parked in neutral. I could turn the wheels until they locked and remote start with it in first gear and the thing would drive in circles. That was actually one of my car show tricks.

For a while I would park my metro where it could drive in a strait line to the front door of my office. I would screw with people by remote starting my car and let it drive to me, then arm the alarm again which would stop the car. I got to the point where I could do it with pretty good precision. God the stupid stuff we do when we are younger.

Ours were not the packaged kind though, we did it with the third or fourth channel on our alarms and a bunch of relays. The remote start would turn on the car, the neon, and the stereo. One of the relays we put on later was on the parking break sensor, the sensor had to say the parking brake was engaged before the remote start would initialize.

How hard is this to do? Approximate installation time? This bypasses having to have clutch in? Compustar has several different models...is THIS the right one? Enquiring minds want to know.

it can be done in about an hour by someone who knows what they are doing. if you are just following the instructions w/ out a clue, it can take much longer.

as for the one to use i dont know, we did ours with a viper alarm and an endless supply of relays.
