I finally know where I wanna mount everything, I listened to some crossfires and some jls. The two models I listened too sounded Almost identical yet the JL was about 80 bucks more per sub. Anyone got any input.

 

jl is way overpriced, mtx makes a sub that stomps their w7's, crossfires i have never heard so i cannot provide an opinion, given the choice on all that is out their, i have always had great luck with rf's power series subs

 

Much of it depends on the "type" of sound you are going for. I own a recording studio and want tight accurate bass (instead of "booming"), so I will be installing an Infinity Reference Series 8" with a 300w Rockford Fosgate mono sub amp. Your mileage may vary...

Do you plan on just adding the sub amp and sub, or are you going to replace and amplify the other speakers as well?

 

I'm going to replace them all. The premium system is weak and the speakers are crap. I like deep bass with tight highs and mids so I'm thinking of going with Kicker Solo-Baric L7 sub with either Infinity or Boston Acoustics for the rest.

 

I'm still undecided on the amps.

 

I've had BA separates before in other vehicles and I really like them.

Has anyone opened up the sub area in the back to see if a 10" could fit, or is a 7" or 8" all that can fit?

 

Hi Juiced, I called Crutchfield an they told me it will be several months before a "fit kit" is available for the HHR. My next step is to contact Scoche (they make radio install kits for the industry), and offer my HHR as a test unit.

Once I get a fit kit designed, I will change out the GM unit for a Pioneer head (50w X 4), and all four door speaks. At that time I'll add the sub and amp in the rear. I'm looking at the possibility of adding a 3-gauge setup in the center console too (AutoMeter white face; oil press, temp, & vacuum/boost).

A great thing about the HHR is having the battery in the rear compartment by the spare. This makes running electrical for sub amps cake! I will most likely put an amp "Cap" in too, so the bass hits hard and accurate.

SoCall HHR is it better to Wait awhile then? That seems like the smart thing to do at this point in time based on the fact that there are only limited parts and aftermarket parts are still in production right now.

 

All mine is gonna be custom. Im gonna take out that shelve and put it a sheet of plexiglass and underneath that have smoothed out fiberglass showing off whatever I can cram under there. And I'm thinking about using one or both of the extra compartments for ports.
