Front speakers, tweeters not working 08 SS

Tweeters and front door speakers have stopped working. Chime doesn't work either nor blinker sound. The back speakers work fine. 2008 HHR SS any ideas what could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance - Jessica

I have the same problem. I was told the speakers are bad.

Speakers bad. Radio head unit bad. Wiring connection bad.
Take your pick. Could be any of these.

Just for the sake of it. Check your fader control. Make sure it's not faded all the way to the rear.

Gotta love trouble shooting.......
But you have some options , listed lowest cost to highest cost ..
(1) Visit you local salvage, remove and replace the tweeters . That will determine the failed part. Either transducers are bad or the output source.
(2) Purchase new components and install them yourself . price will vary ..
(3) Pay a visit to your local installer and have the failed components replaced .
From my experience, I worked as an installer/ store manager for a few years . What I saw in factory and aftermarket systems with failed drivers was the speakers where simply blown. What causes it is very simple . Distortion kills speakers . To better understand this is to understand how a speakers works . Power is supplied in pulses to the speaker. This causes the cone to move out and the spring ( spider ) draws it back in . When presented with distortion , the voice coil stays stationary and burns a spot in it . The pulse flat lines as seen on an oscilloscope . If you continue to use a system with transducers that have burnt coils , it will short circuit the output section of your amp or head unit .

The day after I posted this the front speakers started working again. However it was short lived, they have stopped again. I have noticed they have been on 3 times in the last 2 days or so but today are back off. I'm thinking maybe a head unit problem ? Gonna replace the factory unit this week and see if that cures it.

That's like starting at the top (most expensive) and working your way down.

Did you see firemangeorge's response?
