HHR Stereo Mounting Kit...

I just spoke with the people at Scoche (who make stereo head mounting kits), about a kit for the HHR. They did some research and found that their kit # GM1587B (which is for a 2004 Chevy Malibu), will fit.

So now all you HHR owners who want to install a standard DIN-sized head unit can simply go to any car stereo dealer who orders Scoche kits and have them order you one. The kits usually cost between $19-24.

Once you get the kit, it will allow you to install a DIN stereo on top, with a small tray that hold 2 CD jewel cases beneath it (to fill the space).

Once again, it is this Scoche part:

Part Number: GM1587B
04 CHEVY MALIBU PKT KIT

I hope this helps many HHR owners who are trying to fit custom stereos.

Thanks for the info. I would love to see someone install one of these

UPDATE: Just spoke to Scoche again and they are now working on an "official" HHR install kit. In addition to a custom dash plate, this will also include a custom wiring pigtail from the factory harness to your new replacement radio. They know we sell aftermarket HHR parts, and as soon as the kit is done I'll get one and do an install (posting pics), then hopefully we will sell them on our site. Stay tuned!

Or a couple of gauge pods in it's place.

You can easily modify the kits by cutting the CD slot area off. I agree about the gauges - my goal was to have 3 gauges mounted in the center above the radio (oil press, coolant temp, vacuum/boost), but I'm not sure there is enough room. Once the kit is in, I'll measure the space against the gauges (AutoMeter White Face), and post my findings...

you think they would possibly be able to make a sleek side mounting (passenger side of the center dash) ipod mount? I think a lot of the ppl with ipods would scoop that up..i know i would. even now you can't get a decent looking mount that has an cigg. adapter and doesn't have cables sticking out everywhere. i just think it'd be cool to have music videos playing as you roll down the street.

"i just think it'd be cool to have music videos playing as you roll down the street."

Cool and very illegal. Video is only legal for passengers in the back seat.
There are several iPod cig lighter mounts that transmit wirelessly now - check at Best Buy.

a 2.5'' screen isn't anyworse than a dash gps. i highly doubt that ipods will be deemed illegal. thx for the tip tho.
