How do get the mirror lights to shut off

It will with the ignition turned off as part of the "Battery Run Down Protection", but with the key in the Accessory position, the lights will stay on all the time.

I have this exact problem at the drive in.

I usually park in the back not to block the view, so no one has really complained yet.

if it comes down to that, would you have to have the latch shut, and then disable it to work, or could it be open and be tricked to thinking its shut?
