Have factory radio w/6 CD changer in my 2008 HHR SS - automatic trans if that makes a difference. After 5 years now the radio seems to randomly cut off/on from whatever I'm tuned to be it the CD player, Sirius radio, AM or FM station. All radio control lights flash with the message "No Aux Input Device." I assume it's searching for some portable audio player attached I don't use any auxiliary input device. One time, long ago, I did connect my iPhone just to see if it'd work (it did) but with a choice between 6 CDs or Sirius for music I haven't used it since. Radio has not been out since I've owned the car and this issue just cropped up the past couple of weeks. Think the radio is going bad?
Trying again. The same thing happened on my 06 after about 5 years. Took it to a radio shop and was told I needed speakers. Told me he could replace them for $350.
I ordered 4 new speakers from RockAuto and replaced them myself. Best guess is your factory speaker have dry rotted.
Never thought of speakers being the issue. Thanks for the experience. Looking at Rock Auto they only have one for my system (UQ3) and that's Front Side Door, ENHANCED SPEAKER SYSTEM. I take it there's one in each front door so that'd be two to buy. Rock Auto doesn't have anything listed for rear doors or, I assume, any other speakers it may have as I would guess UQ3 would have 6 speakers like UW5 does or am I under the wrong impression on that?
I don't think the speakers would cause the flashing lights and message. Probably something loose somewhere; you would have to take things apart and try to duplicate the problem intentionally.
If I were to replace the radio, I would replace the speakers also.
You can replace the speakers with any brand you like. The GM branded ones have adapters included, you can buy adapters or fabricate them using parts of the old speake
Had a similar experience with mine. I normally have the rubber plug off of the USB port so I can plug in my phone as needed to charge it. So, I put the rubber plug back in the port and it cut the radio off and gave me the "No Aux Input" message. I pulled the rubber plug and the message disappeared. Several more attempts yielded the same results.
In my case, I think the USB plug is either super sensitive or the physical pushing in on the rubber plug may disturb the wiring somehow. Left the plug out and things worked OK.
Funny part is just the other day I put the plug back in the port and nothing happened. Go figure.
