New Aftermarket Radio Install...

Just installed a Boss model BVB9364RC in my HHR, and thus far all is good. I like the fact that it connects (via Bluetooth) to my phone for hands free calling. It came with a backup camera, but I didn't install it (yet anyway) because it looked like a pain in the a$$ to run/route the wires, and then mount the camera. Not sure I'm going to bother with it, because the car has good visibility for backing up anyway, and I think once the "novelty" of the backup camera wears off, I wouldn't use it anyway.

The sad thing is, hard to believe the factory radio already crapped out; and to replace it (which I'd perfected to do) with either a new/used/or refurbished one, the cost at the stealership to "reprogram" it to my car put the cost over the top. So the aftermarket radio was not only cheaper, but gave me some extra features to boot....

Nice.

I for one would love a backup camera. Lots of little kids in my neighborhood and you can't see them easily. A backup camera was a criteria when looking for our newest car, a 2016 Buick Encore.

You can get a wireless adapter for the camera. Most new HUs I've seen have wireless cameras (I have not really looked).

If you got a new. never used or refurbed you would not need the dealer to program it. You only need that for "used".

Very nice install, I’d reconsider the backup camera, when you change your mind you won’t be able to find all the parts and a replacement will be obsolete.

Yeah, I've been looking at some installation videos and considering it. Haven't found an "HHR specific" video, and I'm still wondering how much work it would be removing interior panels to run the wire. Somewhere I read that someone installed it "inside" the rear hatch near the top, which would keep the camera clean, so that was a thought as well, but again, not really wanting to remove all the panels to run the wire. I even thought about drilling a hole in the rear bumper to install the camera and then running the wire under the car and find a hole to bring it up into the dash area, but alas wondering if it's worth it. After my daughter graduates from HS in the spring, I might be selling the HHR anyway, get down to one vehicle....
