No sound

im at my wits end guys. I bought a 2007 HHR as is. Never thought to check radio for sound, salesman never mentioned.

My fault.

well i asked him and he said the last owner mentioned that HHR’s had a weird way they are wired for sound and if one speaker was out, it would mess up the sound all together. Sounded stupid to me, but again, my fault I didn’t study for myself. So I went and bought new speakers. No help.

So I break down and get a radio. Nothing still. I have had enough and go to a radio install shop. He says my HHR has a pioneer add on with a sub and amp in the back. That the amp is bad. Ok... that makes sense.

Amp came in today. STILL NO SOUND. I’m about to lose my mind.

I have checked fuses and replaced. The only thing I can think of from here is wiring. Am I wrong? I’d love input here. Or should I try to replace the other two door speakers and tweeters?

You have:
4 new speakers
new headunit
new amp

What fuses did you check/replace?
Did you get all the adapters needed for the new head unit?

Pair of Metra 72-4568 Speaker Wire Adapters

scosche gmsr11 harness interface

the only fuses I changed was the amp since the power came on in the radio.

Now mind you the speakers and radio are aftermarket, not factory. The amp and sub are factory. I ordered another factory amp because of the wiring setup. Felt it would be easiest.

Theoretically, if the color codes match they should work.

Is the radio on signal getting from the HU to the amp?

Does the radio have a switched and a live 12V, are they connected correctly? Note that the power to the OE radio is "always on", the computer turns it on and off when you turn the key.

This might sound odd but do the remote door locks and remote start and tire pressure monitors work.

Who knows what the previous owner installed then removed and screwed the wiring up. Saying that means learn how to use a DVOM and set aside a day or two for tracing wires.

There are also connections to the OnStar and XM/Sirius modules that may come into play.

True that if one speaker is SHORTED the system shuts down out of self preservation. Not necessarily bad.

I'm not a radio guy, just reading the book.

Remote start doesn’t work at all! Never had. I had not thought of that being related.

Tire pressure sensors... didn’t know there were any on the vehicle to be honest. I know there has been changes made to the car. There’s a back seat in the back but was no seatbelts. The back seat wasn’t even bolted down! You don’t think you need to look at those sort of things since it’s kind of the law for a car to have safety belts.

Its a panel wagon style HHR, no windows in back doors or back end. Just in front and back hatch.

Well, if it is a full panel the rear seats were added, Sounds like just thrown in replacing the cargo box. It is important to mention that it is a panel some systems are different.

Some 2007s don't have TPMS.

Remote start should work. Look for AP3 on the glove box door, wires connected to the hood latch, remote start options in the personalization menu etc.

The door locks,RVS,and TPMS all work through the RCDLR which is on the same fuse as the RDO #23 on the BCM.

Check fuse #56 under hood.

Not sure about this idea; maybe OnStar is muting the speakers because it thinks you are using the phone?

Don't throw parts at it as suggested, use a meter and check for power and ground where it should be and on low A/C v setting you can check amp outputs for voltage which means there should be sound.

Do your warning chimes work? Door, headlights, seat belt?

Make sure the after market amp/antenna turn on wire is wired correctly to the stock amps turn on wire or well no sound. :) Pink Wire.
