Problem with new HU and LAN-03
Problem with new HU and LAN-03
I just installed a Sony head unit, using the LAN-03 adapter, both from Crutchfield. Everything is wired up and everything works. The problem is I have no running lights or accessory lights(the green lights on the HVAC controls and door locks). Brake lights, blinkers, headlights all work normal. The funny thing is that the running light fuse, a 10A, pops almost instantly when I turn on the running lights, leading me to think there is a short or ground issue. I grounded the HU to the factory wiring ground. I ripped everything out and reinstalled the factory HU and everything works again as normal.
Anybody have ideas? Could the LAN-03 box be bad?

However I found some alternatives. If you want to retain your chimes but do not have a nav unit there is the GMRC-lan-03. If you don't want the chimes then there is a less expensive alternative. XSVI-2104 and the XSVI-2104NAV. The latter for Nav units and the former for non Nav. Hope this helps!?
Well I just got off the horn with Crutchfield. After a hour of wire verification, the Crutchfield guy is unsure what the issue is. All my wiring is correct.
They are sending me another LAN-03 kit, should get it this week. I will update on if that fixes the issue or not.

Well I finally received the replacement unit this week and got it installed today. All works as it should. No fuse popping, all parking lights work normally. Now I just have to send the bad one back and get my credit for it.
I'm happy its working and all, but I still am very disappointed at the lack of QA on these parts. For a simple circuit board with some IC's on it, there is no reason they should charge $130 for it and for it not to be perfect. Its not a complex piece. The lack of quality of the board itself was apparent as well, my new one had a bent component on it.
Kinda sucks the entire electronic world is made overseas, they could at least make sure their crap works.
