Radio lock question
First, hello to all. I'm new to the forum. This question may have come up previously, but I couldn't find it through searching. I recently bought a 2008 HHR ss and it had an aftermarket radio. I want an oem radio so I have my onstar so I bought one from a salvage yard out of a 2008 cobalt (single disc) the radio is obviously locked so I took it to a Chevy dealer who quoted 30 bucks to unlock it, but after trying they told me they couldn't do it with their tech 2. They didn't charge me, but from what I had read this should be able to be done. My question is, are they right, can the radio not be unlocked, or did they possibly not know how to do it?

I don't think I have the answer to that, but I want to say welcome! :thumb:

Found this on a Trailblazer forum on how to unlock a radio with a tech2. Look at post #3 http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=86087

Thanks, I think I'll try a different dealership or a local shop that has a tech 2 and bring this with.

I put a 2010 USB radio in my 08 LS. It was locked so I took it to the Chevy dealer and after waiting a long time. They told me it couldnt be done. So I left there went to a GMAC dealer and the same thing...Couldnt get it unlocked.
I waited another week went back to the Chevy dealer...waited a long time again..tech comes back.."I cant get it to unlock" and says "The part number on the radio is not in the list for an 08 and wont connect to the internet" I just happen to have the part number off my old LT radio on a pice of paper and seen it in the Tech II list and said "Pick that and lets see what happens?" He did and whoolaa! It cleared and works great !! He really started to scratch his head. The sad thing is they charged me for the work :) HAHA! TRy and give them the correct part number for your year and dont let them use whats on the radio. |
