Need help with radio wiring diagram:
2010 HHR 1LT 2.2L with basic factory radio - GM Part# 20835356 / Delphi Part# 28213768 - CD player only works about 10% of the time so, I am replacing it with Sony GSX-GS80 amplified media player so I can just plug in a microSD via USB & have my entire 60GB music library in my car. My speakers have all been replaced with 100W RMS continuous power speakers so there shouldn't be any issues running this player which has 4x45W RMS output
HOWEVER: some of the pin-out for the 2 factory wiring harnesses don't have a clear description of what they are used for, so there are 3 wires from the Sony wiring harness that I cannot match up: One of them is remote signal for a separate power amp which I'm not using, the other 2 are:
1> Accessory Power - Sony manual description reads: "To the +12V power terminal which is energized when the ignition switch is set to the accessory position" - I'm guessing this is what's commonly called RAP or Retained Accessory Power.... but there's nothing listed on the Factory harness diagrams that I've found for accessory power / RAP, etc.... Pretty sure this one should be connected. My best bet for the acc power is either 16 pin factory connector position 3 "Radio On Signal" or position 9 "Audio Common"
2> Illumination - Sony manual description reads: "To a car's Illumination signal" is there even such a thing for the factory radio? I'm guessing this doesn't have to be connected, and have no clue based on the factory wiring diagram descriptions what it could even connect to, though I did see one diagram that shows a gray wire in pin 2 on the 14 pin connector as "interior lighting" but my harness does not have anything in pin2.
Lastly: I don't see a fuse for the factory radio? Anyone know what amperage it runs at? The Sony media player uses a 15A fuse (due to the built in amplifier) and suggest direct battery connection if the factory radio uses a 10A.
The stock wiring harness has NO accessory wire, that is what the GMLAN adapter does. For the lighting tap into any light that dims. The Remote signal is used for the antenna amplifier (pink wire) and an external amp.
All of the unused fuses on the BCM provide switched 12V on the RAP circuit. The harness only supplies always on power..
Here is a PDF of the wiring AGAIN. Attachment 49416
That's a much better diagram than the others I found (saved for future ref)
Looks like Accessory Power will have to go to battery+/Pin 1 on the 14 pin harness. And radio is on a 15A fuse so once the Metra 70-2014 harness adapter gets here I can install!!!
Did you miss this part? "All of the unused fuses on the BCM provide switched 12V on the RAP circuit.".
The GREY wire on the car harness goes to the light dimmer.
If you hook it to the always on the radio will be on until you turn it off, good luck remembering that every time.
Without the GM:LAN adapter you will have no chimes (turn signal, door open, lights on).
Link to the Metra website: Metra Part # 70-2104 | GM wire harness | Metra Online
The very first paragraph in bold print tells you where the RED wire goes. You might read the instructions on the website they might not be included from the internet supplier.

So... there's already a 15Amp radio fuse in the BCM that goes to the red wire on pin 1 of the 14 pin connector..... at least according to the diagram you provided....

there is one gray wire and it's pin position 6 for Left Front Speaker Output (-)
If you look closely, you can see the pin2 on my harness is empty... and I have fully functional interior lights including dimming capability.

And yet the factory radio only comes on when you turn the key on.... out of 20+ radio installs (last was 2001 Hyundai Accent) this is the only vehicle I've ever installed a radio in, that does not have alabeled accessory power going to the radio harness, and yet this vehicle DOES have one(or factory radio would be always on...)it's just not labeled as such

SO.... I have no need of chimes. I already have the factory radio removed, and all my lights still work, my turn signal indicators still work, my door ajar message still comes up on the dash... chimes just interrupt my music. Also have no need of Onstar, don't have SWC,

Yep... goes to the fusebox.... which the red/wht wire (pin 1) from harness X1 (14pin harness) also goes to on your diagram.................
On a happier note: Tested out the new player in my kitchen!
Thanks to a portable power supply:
3x 18650 batteries in series average voltage under load 11.7V enough for basic testing, not enough to see what the player is capable of.
No FM signal cause no antenna attached, but both USB ports work as expected, connected via Bluetooth to my Galaxy S23 Ultra, & was able to change songs over Bluetooth with the radio controls!!! I will now have a place to put my phone while in the car without an extra phone holder too
OKAY., you asked for help but you know more about it than me. Got it.
Look at the wiring diagram, the gray wire is clearly marked ON THE RADIO pin #2. It goes to ":interior lights system" that means the dimmable lights in the interior like the dash board lights.
Yes, your turn signals work, the chime do not. That is the "click-click" that tells you they are working. Not a relay from days of yore.
The remi8nder chimes for headlights on and door open after you turn the key off are gone.
The stock radio turns on with the switch because the GMLAN is connected to it.
Once again; ANY UNUSED FUSE ON THE BCM IS SWITCHED AND I(S ON THE RAP RELAY. That5 means suitable for an accessory circuit like the instructions say. The accessory wire is what the radio uses to function the power wire provides power for the memory. The original car wiring harness does not provide Switched/accessory power. The GMLAN sends a signal to the radio to turn on/off. Without a GMLANJ adapter you must source switched/accessory power elsewhere.
If you have chimes without a radio somebody has added something. The Chimes are produced by the radio and played through the driver side front speakers.
If you got the GMLAN adapter you would not have to bumble around figuring stuff out with knowledge from before cars got computers.
Disregard me, have fun. I don't know why you need to ask for help, you got it handled.
You might look through the Audio/Video forum https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audio-video-17/, There are a lot of threads just like this one. In fact I am moving this thread to join them, since this has no relation to ""problems/service/ repairs".

Go back and look at the photo of the factory harness connector I posted - there is NOTHING in pin#2, it's an empty space.

It is good to mention this in case someone doesn't know. Nothing I need, or would miss, and can be added back in if I ever sell the car - which is not likely, unless I find a nice low mileage panel with 2.4L engine! Even then I'd probably just add it as a daily & keep this one as a backup

Now that was helpful - I misread it in your first post (where you basically said the same thing with different wording
So... I'll just run the red wire from the Metra speaker harness over to the BCM. I've done that a few times adding amplifiers for friends
At least the Metra harness is using the EIA standard for color coding aftermarket stereo systems! Same colors I've seen for decades on all my aftermarket radio's & every wire in the Sony harness is accounted for with the red wire going to the BCM!!!
Ready for install
