Radio Turns Itself On

Sometimes when I start the car my radio will turn itself on. The sound quality is very poor and it is not tuned to the preset station. It will stay on for nine seconds and then turn itself
off. If I push the on/off button before this time there will be a very loud popping sound from the speakers. This will sometimes happen during driving. Has anyone else had this problem and found the solution?

Yours Truly,
Cougar

I can’t say I’ve seen this problem before, possibly the radio switch is dirty, a good cleaning with compressed air, might do the trick

So you turn the radio off each time you turn the key off, before opening the driver door?

I bet it is an after-market radio.
This is a stock radio, some have a usb port instead of the input jack.

When my 2006 1LT was new, it did this very thing.

Once in a while it would come on when starting the car. There would be no display on the radio, but you would hear loud static. If you pushed the on/off button, there would be a loud popping sound (like the OP mentioned).

I took it to the dealer a few times, but of course it wouldn't do it then.

I lived with it for months until it finally stopped doing it (don't know why it stopped).
