Replacing 08 Delco system with an 09 system.

Ive been trying to find this out. When I bought my car there was no bluetooth option out for the vehicles, but now the 09 have that option plus an USB mp3 reader/player. I wanna replace my 08 deck with an 09 Deck. Some poeple say it can be done others say it can;t but i just dont understand why I cant just swap out the decks themselves. My car already has the Onstar microphone and the Onstar phone itself just as the 09 do, but some are saying I'd need a whole new wiring harness to have the new deck just for the bluetooth functioanlity? I dont get it wouldnt the bluetooth feature be built right in the deck itself or am I mistaken here?

Won't work. You will have to go aftermarket for bluetooth.

I may be wrong but I think all you would need to do is have a dealer reprogram the cad to recognize the new head unit. They are all VIN specific.

Or not!!! LOL

On non navigation radios, such as the HHR, bluetooth is controlled by the OnStar VCIM. And a 2009 VCIM will not work in a 2008 vehicle.

ok thanks you explained a hell of a lot better than the guys at the dealership did. So pretty much I'd have to replace the electrical system lol.

Ya someone mentioned something like this too.

Damn I that sucks cause I really don't wanna go after market cause almost everything is there and wired up.

It sounds easier to replace the car vs the radio. LOL!

Aint that the truth. You'd think they'd accommodate to make extra cash.
