Sirius installation question

Have an idea but need some input of whether it will work from some of you that have Sirius. I want to use the factory XM antenna for my Sirius sportster. I don't care about the XM working in the car so I thought I would use an XM to Sirius antenna adapter and plug it in at the rear wear the factory XM receiver is. Then I am going run an antenna extension cable from the adapter up to the dash for the Sirius unit. I'm guessing under the carpet is the right location to run the cable. Is it this easy or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Here is a good tread on that subject:

Thanks Marksand. I saw that one in the past and is a very good thread. Doesn't really answer my question on running the cable. Guess I'll just have to pull the car apart to see where everything is. Was hoping to limit any unnecessary interior removal.

You might want to wait a bit because now that the Sirius/XM merger has, finally, been approved existing radios are supposed to be able to receive both company's programing. I`m sure they will announce their plans soon.

does that mean that if we are a sirius subscriber, the factory xm will be able to work with our subscription?

got this off xm site, so the opposite has to be true also

"There's never been a better time to be an XM subscriber. Any radios or other equipment that subscribers currently use will be fully supported by XM for many years to come, and existing radios will be able to receive a mix of programming from both services."

I dont know if these will help, but there are several pictures of my interior gutted.

however, I too would wait. I had been a Sirius subscriber for a couple years and when I got my HHR with the built-in XXM, I loved it, but still wanted both...now maybe soon, I will have both.
