does anyone know where the wires are routed that are for the volume and skip buttons on the steering wheel. i want to use these to control my airbags. i dont need them now that i have an aftermarket headunit.

also does the plastic piece that holds the switches just pop out?

i'm pretty sure the center piece on the wheel comes out 1st...but i'm sure someone else knows more.....thats a cool idea..hope it works for you...i plan to use my rear wiper switches for top secret assignment.

You have to remove the airbag ,then you will see a torx screw to remove cover for switch

I may be wrong, but I think he wants to know where they go after they go through the steering column..... IE under the dash.

But then again... Maybe not

yeah i want to know if the wires run to the radio harness, if so what colors are they. the only reason i asked about how to remove them was in case i had to rewire.

I also wonder what kind of load these little switches can handle. ill have to see how much the valves pull

Why don't you use them for your aftermarket radio? It's not that hard to get working.

i didnt use them before anyway, and the new head unit is a touch screen

The wires do go to the radio head unit. One of the wires is Dark Blue and goes to pin 11 of the 14 pin connector. The other wire is White with a Black tracer and is on pin 14 of the 16 pin connector.

The switches are actually a resistor voltage divider and can handle very little power. The resistance changes depending upon what button is pressed from 1.1K to 3.3K Ohm, with no button pressed the resistance is an open or infinity.

Your head unit "probably runs on IR with a remote

you could still use you steering wheel buttons with a IR swichkit adapter

i just hate looking down fiddlin with the radio when i`m driving

Several years ago I tried hooking up one of those PAC converters to get my controls working with my Pioneer radio-the thing shorted out. When I get my courage up, I want to try again. I hate having buttons that dont do anything.

On my other car, I want to see about using the windshield washer button to control a relay for an extra horn. But, I have to check to see how much voltage it can handle.
