Two of three Passenger Side Speakers not working

Hello,

New to the forum here and before I get into a major tear down or replacement of parts, I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced this?

My 2008 HHR with a standard CD Player (MP3 Capable) suddenly only plays out of the driver's side speakers and the passenger side tweeter along the windshield pillar.

Does this sound like the two speakers are blown? I would think if that channel of the power amp was blown the tweeter wouldn't work unless this is somehow I bi-amped system?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome.

The pillar tweeter is actually wired along with the door speaker on the same circuit, so if one works and not the other, it would have to be the wiring or speaker.

Thanks! So I guess I have to check the speakers first and then the wiring. Good thing I have speakers laying around.

Here is a link to my own stereo/speaker saga

There are others that I have commented in telling pretty much the same story,... try the search feature.

@trp313, how are things going with your speaker situation in your HHR?

Honestly, have not had time to attempt to do anything with the situation Michelle. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you ever solve this issue? I have been having a similar issue and would be open to any advice

A bit of advice:

A pillar = the bar that holds the tweeter

There is no "windshield pillar" that I'm aware of, lol...

You will have to take the head unit (radio, stereo, deck) out to see if some wires connected to the head unit have come loose or not.

But it sounds like they door speakers are either blown or the wiring came loose.

It's not hard to take the door panels off. You just remove the 2 bolts in the middle of the door (there is an oval shaped plastic cover on it) and the bolt from the inside door handle (pop the cap out gently with a screw driver or something) and then just pull on the door to get it off. I've done it several times and I can make a video tomorrow if you want.

The only hard part is getting the lock-in tabs on the top of the door to go in correctly, and the removable pop in clips that hold the door panel on to go back in, or to NOT come off completely when you take the door panel off. But they are cheap to replace and should not be much of an issue. Even with some broken, you really just need a few of the outside ones to hold the panel on.

Oh yeah and I believe there is a plastic bolt type thing that pops in the back of the door panel (faces the rear of the vehicle or your seat belt when you open the door)
