I don't think the 2011 model has a removable chip.

Zzzzzzzz buy maestro steering wheel control module Buy used steering wheel controls at a junk yard (not pena's, I snagged all 3) Can't say I've missed those annoying chimes since the last time they actually worked 6+ years ago. Wish I didn't waste money on the factory adapter that retains chime functionality. It's easy enough to find an ignition turn-on at the passenger cabin fuse box. I cant imagine 200mAh causing any notice to a 10a or 15a line.....ive wired my head unit to a rocker switch so it's only on when I tell it to be. Same with off. Got tired of the stupid computer controlled pink wire which didn't work. Sometimes I hate technology... but safest way is a fused relay with power tapped off of one of the big wires at the fuse box and turn-on line on an ignition-on line... |
All of the unused fuse position on the BCM are "ignition turn-on". Easy enough to just add a wire on the back of the BCM and plug a fuse in. They are also on the retained power circuit, so they stay on until the driver door closes.

Im even cheaper than Cheap Guy;
I went for the Sony DSX-A415BT. No expensive wheel control box. The radio can directly hookup to the switches. The Metra LC-GMRC-LAN-03 Wiring Interface includes all that needed to finish the job, harness adaptors and warning chimes. to finish the install a Scosche GM1587B Dash Kit. Total cost to my door $123.02, from Crutchfield. |

Looks like that is what Ill be doing , clipped the chip out of the radio and BING! same thing LOCKED. Not worth the stress. double bin , Crutchfields here i come. I just wanted to check the speakers before I ordered the radio and replace all at one time. Oh well .
Thanx for all the help guys. Oh and one good thing i found out. No chime but the HHR will not let you lock your keys in the ign. switch and shut the door. they unlock without the CHIME. |
Yes it is a Old thread :O
Mike's 2007 I am curious as to what you finally did and what you used ! Thanks |
I went through this with my wife's Grand Caravan. I ordered a factory replacement for my wife's radio because the antenna input failed meaning no radio. When it arrived I found out it was a brick without paying a dealer twice what I paid for the radio if I could find one willing to do it for a radio they didn't sell me. I returned the unit and told my wife she better learn how to use iHeartRadio or get over it. Bluetooth still works fine
