Newbie with some audio hints needed.

New to HHR scene but not a forum scene. So i did some research and got some answers.

Like no you dont have to have an aftermarket hu programmed to the vin as long as you have all proper wiring.

you need wire connectors so you dont splice the speaker wire for after market wires.

using a double din w/ install fit kit

Ok I have no onstar. Its a 07 ls. What i need to know is how do you tell if its a premium system or not. Now i know i read if it has a sub in the back its premium well, there is a spot for one, but its a hard plastic for a cover. So not sure if the option was added.

Have to install speakers soon, because when the car was given to the wife the speakers worked for about 35 mins and now are dead. From searching it has to do with the windows and speakers getting water logged etc.

Components up front to utilize the tweeter and full range in middle doors?

Thanks everyone.

The premium speaker system has a grille in back that says "pioneer", so sounds like you have the base system.
For a proper wiring job that keeps the warning chimes and turn signal clicks, you want a "gmlan-03" harness, should make the wiring much easier too as it uses the factory plugs.
I recommend decent 2way aftermarket door speakers and just leave the stock pillar tweets unplugged. Aftermarket tweeters are too strong to put up in yer face, and mess up the imaging IMO.

I don't think the premium sound system was an option on the LS. It was on the 1LT and I believe standard on the 2LT/SS.

You could just cut the old speakers out of the built in brackets and screw the new speakers in.

The gmlan-03 is a wiring adapter for after market radios. It ties the chimes into the "computer".

The premium Pioneer system was indeed an option for the 07 LS. Mine came with it including XM.

In addition to the chimes, you will also lose your R.A.P. (retained accessory power). If you aren't familiar with this, it enables you to keep your radio going for 10 minutes after your key is removed.

You want to search for GMOS-LAN-03. One of these should run you somewhere around $100. Good luck

Since you do not have Onstar this is one that will work for you. The one mentioned above is for Onstar vehicles.

This one is $50. I got mine as a kit together with the antenna adapter and dash kit for a single din on ebay though for $65.

she wants to run a double din, but i found it on ebay for 65, wiring harness as second guy stated "LC-GMRC-LAN-03" (since no onstar) comes also with double din kit, antenna adapter and signal booster.

have no problem with getting the fit rings, just need to know if i need them for all four doors or just front.

she wants me to do some weird ****e to it. She found some 6.5" Subs she wants in the front door and keep factory tweeter. then the HiFonics 1500 2way for door.

thinking of calling up a junk yard see if i can find factory sub box and add a shallow mount sub just to give her a little more bump.
