What are my chances on blowing my sub?
 

I am intalling a Kicker CVT 8". I currently have a Kenwood amp sitting in the closet that has a 300w RMS and a max 1000w. I am scared to install this amp. What are your thoughts?

If the speaker is rated higher then the amp then no problem.....other way around ,and one day you or somebody forgets and cranks it and pow.......you get the sweet aroma of fried voice coil!!

Thats the thing..... the kicker cvt 8 is rated I think 200rms and 5-600max.
Some one on this board has this same amp and sub. It just seems dangerous to me, even with the amp tuned down. Hell, I might have to dish out more money to buy a new amp.

depends on how you wire and it depends on your enclosure

is it the 8104D amp? wire the coils in series, turn gain down, and you should get a useable response but not the best sound...bridge it in parallel and call the fire dept

class d gets hot so keep it in an open space

you get what you (will or won't) pay for ... spend a few bucks and get a good amp

I've seen more speakers blow from trying to produce crap from an underpowered amp...Trying to get a speaker to produce the sound of a distorted amp clipping at high levels can blow the speaker easily....I usually run speakers that are under rated for the amo i am using and leave the amp mid way up

Alright, a new amp it is. How is the Alpine MRP-M500? It seems to have the perfect power specs.
