XM installed
I ordered the GM XM module through gmpartsdirect a couple weeks ago and I just got it installed.
Here's what the kit looks like:
You have to replace your existing onstar antenna with the one they provide because the onstar only has 2 connectors whereas the the xm has 3.
Installation is pretty easy except for the antenna. You have to drop the headliner and run the wires through the roof. I had it professionaly done at a car audio shop for $80.00.

What is the part number and how much did it cost? I assume that this would be the same for an 06 HHR also? We got a free trial with my wifes new car and am thinking of adding it if I like it as long as it isn't too expensive.

On my '08, which had no Onstar/XM we used GM part #17800594. Had to drill a hole in the roof, and run all the wires for the antenna in the headliner. The XM unit fit in the console just fine.

Do you happen to have a close-up picture of the XM head unit and/or an idea of where the other two cables clip to?
? We have a club member looking to install XM to his HHR

your radio has to have the CAT button on it to be able to accept the XM. Without it you can't navigate etc, so that is the easy way to tell.
! Is there more than a couple of radio variations or is it just the standard or premium head units

Just do what I did..... buy a XM head unit, hook it up and cruise..... go home, pop the hu out, go into the house, pop it into the home set up and continue to cruise. Makes no sense to have it only in the ride AND not at home when you pay for 24/7/365!
