All Quiet on the Clunking Front(end)

As posted in the lounge I purchased my first HHR last weekend. It is an 06 Daytona Blue 2LT with 108k and a clunk in the front.

I replaced the stabilizer bushings(isolator) and the stabilizer end links and no more clunk when going over bumps. The bushings were $8.36 for 2 at my local Chevy parts dept. and I bought the Moog (K750012) end links with grease fittings at $63.85 for 2 at a local parts house. I had them installed this morning and so far the parts seem to have fixed the issue. So, for less than $150.00 I'm very happy.

I think it was just the bushings, and i could have saved some money. But, I figured with 108k on the odo any new front end parts couldn't hurt.

This forum helped alot in determining the issue and parts needed without spending any more money!

Thanks,

Actually the endlinks are the most common cause of the clunking, the bushings usually cause a rubbing or squeaking noise.

I can not agree. My links still go. But the bushings replaced twice and had to change a third time. GM's not rubber, but ****.

I replaced the end links on mine a few weeks ago. I actually had one of them come apart(ball portion popped out of its socket). It started vibrating very badly while driving it home from school the one night.

I got to drive today about 2 hrs each way - 4 total - on curvy, country, and sometimes rough road and it drove very well. It was also very tight with no noise, clunk, rattle at all!

IMHO - If you are going for end links, $10 and a little more labor for new bushings can't be a bad thing!

BTW - I have the pioneer 7 speaker audio and it ROCKS!

I just noticed when swapping the front struts that the right end link top nut will not tighten, it just turns inside the link. Time for new ones again I guess, theres a sale next week on the moogs (nascar advantage) at partsource up here in canada. Maybe I should stock up.
