Big Rear Brakes

So I never really understood why GM did not offer the big vented rear brakes that are on the Cobalt SS for us HHR guys. After seeing that the cobalt guys were getting Saab pads for their brake jobs it got me thinking (it did hurt a little) I wonder if the Saab rear brake set up would fit with little or no modification. So I contacted are friends at Goldwing Saab recyclers and they hooked me up with a set of calipers and brackets and today I did some mocking up....with just a little work I got what I wanted 292mm vented rears, should have new rotors in this week so I can slot them and finish this up but here is a little teaser,

Be careful of brake balance when playing around with the rears....its not just a straight bolt on...should also look into effects on the ABS and TC systems....otherwise old skool rules apply

We have been doing these kind of swaps in the Saab world for some time now with no ill effect, but of course will be careful on her maiden voyage.

This is an SS mod?

I just want to make sure I understand what you did. You started with an SS that already had factory disk brakes in the rear and modified with bigger parts from Saab? I know there is pre-bankruptcy Saab engineering in the HHR, as exemplified by the Saab-style window switch location through 2008 (non-SS). This is not nearly the job that converting to ANY rear disk brakes would be for an HHR with stock rear drum brakes (LS or LT). There is another thread where someone actually did that conversion, but I doubt it's worth the trouble for a non-tech person.

Just how much bigger are these....

nice upgrade...is this from a saab 9-3T?...we have one in our driveway as well as the hhr...i like how gm made kinda easy to swap all these parts?

Does anyone know what he did with this? I have the same calipers and want to put them on my SS.

It's a 6 yr old thread, and the OP has not been back since 2014, so it's kinda doubtful you will get info back on your question.

The Delta platform is common to Saab and HHR and on and on. The Saab 9-2 was built in the same factory as the HHR. The 9-3 and the Impala are both very close to an HHR with some interchange.

Maybe as obliquely suggested in post #3 check out some Saab sites.
