Brake pedal height adjustment

Hi,

I have had a Low brake pedal since I got My HHR. My question is there an adjustment rod coming from the power booster to the brake pedal ?My HHR is a 2007 LT1 2.2Liter . New brake shoes and Pads.

No adjuster for the pedal; but.. that usually means the shoes on the rear need adjusting. You should only have 3-4 clicks on the hand brake.

Also, what is your definition of 'low brake pedal' ? Is it resting close to the firewall, or is it just soft, or ??

I thought I had a low one. I confirmed with at least one other experienced member who indicated that his pedal firms up a couple inches off the ground. Mine has always been that way no matter how tight the rear drums are. Also, I test drove a couple HHR's feeling out the market over the years and they all feel the same way. The pedal is naturally kind of "soft". At least softer than any car I drove before. Anyone else want to chime in to confirm or deny?

Must have got the Fred Flintstone Edition

But this is what I mean, 'low' means different things to different people.

If you want a hard pedal, cap off the vacuum hose.

Hi Don,

Low pedal on mine is about 2 Inches from the floor. It is a hard Pedal. The brakes are new. You mean the Vacuum Hose from the Motor to the booster? It kinda scary if you need to Make a panic Stop! Apparently The Newer models 2010 and 2011 Might have the adjuster. Some where in My Manual "Chiltons" I read Something about turning the rod out a few turns. Thought I Bookmarked it. Now I can't find the page. I assume They meant the one from the Power booster. Thanks for the reply!!!

Thanks again Don,

Check your brake fluid also.

If you have new pads etc. did you also bleed the brakes and was it topped off? Simple things first.

It could be your master cylinder is headed south!

It was a joke.

I can't find any reference to an adjustment to the pedal in Mitchell OD. There is something about shims for the brake light switch (curiously they don't call it a position sensor).
