Clanking noise from front wheel area
It only happens when I'm stopping or starting.
I had a bad experience with firestone and I had(have) slight wheel wobble at about 55mph that firestone is apparently unable to fix (or un-willing) and now I assume the tie rods have come loose. It's a fairly high pitched clinging sound that is somewhat nerve wrecking. Is there anything I can look for that would be loose that is easily accessible? |
tie rods as mentioned, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, lower control arm rear bushings, bearing hub just to name a few but most common sources of clanking noises

"high pitched clinging sound" ?
Sorry. Not sure what clinging means. |
Have you not tried the Search Tool at the top of the page? Give it a go - it works.

I recently stumbled upon a factoid about the clunk. It seems that if you reuse the axle nut after removing it it can cause a clunk.
I believe there is a TSB about adding a thrust washer to the inner side of the hubs. My 2008 did it my 2011 does it. I don't care. Have you ever thought about the hubs? Why do you think tie rod ends would have become loose? They are either attached or not attached, they do not have a nut like old times. Why go back to a shop that you don't trust? There have to be hundreds of other places around you. |
