Koni struts for Cobalt..fit the HHR SS?
Koni struts for Cobalt..fit the HHR SS?
Does anyone know if the struts/shock offered by Koni fit the HHR SS?
i ask cause i installed prokit from Eibach on stock struts and blew the strut...
so figured id look into aftermarket options while waiting on my Peddler springs to make it state side...

All models are the same......with that said, they are not all built the same,,,internally..the SS does not have an aftermarket shock/strut available as a direct replacement to factory valving...unless your geting the high dollar Koni's, your replacing with shocks built for the LT2 model (FE3 suspension package). There have been those that havve done this and reports are good, but, if you are any kind of performance oriented, this is a step back.
Im going for the Koni/Peddler combo cant wait
Eibach, i think are too soft maybe why the strut blew, not sure what happen Eibach dealer installed them, and is replacing my strut....... but GM strut price on FE5.......only makes me pay about $100 more for Koni's
JoeR, the Koni, use the stock body right? have drill and tap and remove internals correct?

Yes, they use the stock strut body. The top of the OEM strut has to be cut off and done to a very close dimension, too. The OEM "guts" come out. A hole has to be drilled in the bottom. The Koni directions are very clear. Just follow them and make sure that the bolt in the bottom is tightened correctly, too.
The Koni and KYB units are for an FE3 Suspension (LS/LT) and not FE5 (SS). FE3 and FE5 suspension parts bolt up but the FE5 has different dampening rates. You can also buy Cobaly SS / FE5 struts and shocks, but the HHR is 350lbs heavier, and heard mixed results (positive and negative).
When the HHR was new I had a strut fail @ 4,000 miles and it took the dealer 2 weeks to get one and they refused to put a cobalt unit on it.
I just bought Original replacements from Crate Engine Depot, front and reats were under $400.
Good Luck
